MateSel vs MateSel Legacy
Section titled “MateSel vs MateSel Legacy”In September 2025, we released a new user interface for MateSel. This new version we are simply calling MateSel. The older user interface version which has been around for many years will now be called MateSel Legacy. Both MateSel and MateSel Legacy will be maintained until such time that MateSel supports all required features that are still used in MateSel Legacy.
If you are moving from MateSel Legacy, please take note of the key differences between MateSel and MateSel Legacy:
- We no longer require or use MateSel.ini, InpGroups.txt, or InpOneGroups.txt. You only need to provide the CSV main datafile.
- We no longer accept main datafiles in the TXT format.
- You can now store your main datafiles on shared drives like OneDrive and Google Drive.
- Updates to the new version are automatic. You will be notified within the program if an update is available.
- MateSel Legacy and MateSel can run side-by-side.
- The following features are not yet supported in the new version:
- Mixed Mating Groups
- Multiple EndUses
- Individual coancestry distributions
- Manage cost of assembling mating groups
- Batch/Command Line usage
If you need to use MateSel Legacy, please refer to the MateSel Legacy Instructions since MateSel Docs doesn’t cover the MateSel Legacy version.
